| E style retaining rings |
E-clips and all other types of retaining rings are used to limit axial motion on a shaft. They require very little excess shaft length and require only a small amount of turning work on the lathe.
To use a retaining ring you need to mount your shaft in the lathe and cut a groove in it:
| Shaft Size | Groove Diameter | Groove Width |
| 0.25 | 0.23" | 0.025" |
| 6mm | 5mm | 0.74mm |
| 8mm | 7mm | 0.94mm |
The clips are designed to be used on the specified diameter shafts, but only the groove size matters and they can be used on larger diameter shafts.
