The recommended mounting method is to use a freely rotating mandrel about 10% smaller than the internal diameter. You can also simply use a smaller diameter fixed post, although this reduces the service life of the spring, long life is not a criteria of most 2.007 machines.
If using two springs for the same mechanism, mount them back to back for one of the most stable configurations.
You should not bend the spring backwards; this will drastically limit its life and reduce its coil effectiveness.
Do not modify in any way. Any modification is not recommended and may destroy the spring.
